Break Through E-mail Clutter

by Kim Harrison on October 27, 2009

dreamstime_5384768[1]Most days my E-mail box is a burden!  I feel compelled to check it a few hundred times a day because I don’t want to miss any important messages.  I have learned to scan E-mails in seconds for the ones that should have my attention.    The other day I noticed that I was getting just a few emails per hour.  For the first few moments I felt a sense of calm that  I was no longer a victim of email obsession/overload.  Then panic set in when I realized something might be wrong and I might be missing important E-mails!   Sure enough, my mailbox was full!  I fixed the issue and sure enough the barrage of E-mails began to flood my inbox. Once again, I had to sort through the clutter to find the most relevant emails.

The phenomenal growth of social media marketing has some saying that E-mail is dead.  But, is it really?  I don’t think so – not at all.  Trust me, I know we all  have a hundreds of E-mails to sort through no time to waste reading messages that are not meaningful.

The holiday season is coming and companies must to find ways to distinguish themselves from the holiday E-mail clutter.
