7 Reasons Your Business Needs Social Media

social media

Still not convinced that your company should participate in the social media rush?  If your company does not have social media as part of your marketing mix, here are 7 reasons you should develop your plan right away.

  1. Your Customers & Prospects Love Social Media. Your customers and prospects love it and they are using it to get relevant information from their connections about your company and your competitors.   They are now spending more time on social media than with email and they get rely on their network for product reviews.   They trust their network (even anonymous ones) far more than they do your marketing claims.  Part of your business is to be where your customers are in order to understand and anticipate their needs.
  2. People are Talking Behind Your Back. Your customers and prospects and are using social media to talk about products and services in your industry… you need to know what they are saying.  You need to be in tune with the comments that are made about your company, your industry and competitors in order to be successful.
  3. Your Competition Beat You To It. Your competition is probably already using social media through blogs, twitter, face book, Linkedin, You Tube.. just do a search on each media and you will find that your competitor is already in the space establishing their presence and gaining ground with your customer base.  But it’s not too late!  Get started now…Should you be there? Ya think?
  4. Improve Customer Service. Your customers are talking about your service – you can see what folks are complaining about and make some corrections.  Some big companies are taking advantage of this social media to service their customers.  Be where the customers are….
  5. Reinforce Your Brand. Coca-Cola has an awesome social media presence.  You know its’ a huge brand but they are delivering messages where their customers are.  Coke even has a special division devoted to social media.  With social media you have the opportunity to set the stage for your brand in the space, rather than having others set it for you.  If you actively participate you can strengthen your brand if not you run the risk of damaging your brand.
  6. Protect Your Brand. I have seen many cases of misuse of corporate branding on social media sites.  Some companies have had to fight for the rights to use their own name and branding.  Rogue groups have banded together to create a group under the guise of the company logo and who knows what they are saying about you (you don’t since you are not there!).  Examples are in the case of a franchise system.  Companies should establish rules and legal guidelines for other when they are using their brand in social media space.
  7. Old Fart Syndrome.    Bottom line, if you are not using social media at all, you look uncool and out of touch…
